First Impressions

We’d bought memory foam before, so we were expecting the usual routine: waiting for it to expand, airing it out and hoping the chemical smell disappeared after a day or two.

None of that happened.

The Panda toddler pillow arrived fully shaped, with no noticeable odour and no waiting around before bedtime.

From the packaging onwards, everything felt understated rather than over-engineered. Delivery took two working days, the pillow arrived in Panda London’s recyclable cardboard box, and there was very little unnecessary packaging overall.

It immediately felt like a product designed for everyday family life rather than simply for display.

Feel & Support

We’d expected something firm.

Instead, the pillow gently compresses under pressure before slowly returning to shape. It supports your hand without ever feeling hard—exactly the balance we’d hoped for in a toddler pillow.

The removable bamboo cover feels exceptionally soft and cool to the touch, with a discreet hidden zip that keeps the design clean while making it easy to remove for washing. At first glance it actually looked flatter than we’d expected.

We hadn’t expected to notice much difference from the cover itself. But it was actually one of the first things we commented on. It felt noticeably cooler than our previous polyester cover, with a soft finish that never felt slippery or synthetic.

Our First Night Using It

We weren’t expecting to notice much on the first night, but our daughter surprised us.

For the past year, she’d gradually stopped using her previous pillow altogether, usually sleeping directly on the mattress with her hand tucked beneath her cheek—or occasionally resting on her bunny comforter instead. We’d almost assumed she simply wasn’t a pillow child.

Although the toddler size is recommended for children aged 2–4 years, our daughter was already approaching her third birthday when we bought it, so we’ll naturally get a little less use from it than families buying earlier.

Even so, we’d happily move on to Panda London’s Kids Pillow when the time comes rather than switching brands. If anything, our only regret is not discovering Panda a little sooner.

Our only very minor criticism relates to the bamboo cover. We chose to use the supplied cover exactly as Panda London intended, without adding another pillowcase, and loved its soft, breathable feel. However, because it’s the finished outer cover, we’d love to see it offered in a few additional colours or subtle patterns. The plain white design is beautifully clean and minimalist, but at first glance it can look as though the pillow is still waiting for its pillowcase. A few understated options—perhaps soft oat, sage or pale blue stripes—would make an already excellent product feel even more thoughtfully finished.

It’s a small observation rather than a genuine drawback, though. We’d much rather see Panda London continue prioritising quality, comfort and thoughtful design than introduce changes simply for the sake of variety.

Is It Worth Buying?

If you’re happy replacing cheaper toddler pillows whenever they lose their shape, this probably isn’t the pillow for you.

But if you’d rather buy one well-made toddler pillow and not think about replacing it again for a long time, we think Panda justifies the extra cost.

It’s also an excellent choice for toddlers who seem uncomfortable on their current pillow. Before switching, our daughter had gradually stopped using hers altogether. The Panda pillow was the first one she’d happily stayed on throughout the night.
